Nelson Le, MD, MBA, AVIA Innovation
Dr. Nelson Le is the Medical Director at AVIA, where he provides clinical leadership and expertise in translating health system and clinical operational needs into opportunities for innovation. Prior to AVIA, Nelson was Senior Clinical Advisor at InterSystems where he helped global healthcare organizations develop and execute technology strategies. At McKesson Provider Technologies, Nelson was Vice President of Medical Affairs, where he received the company’s award for innovative process improvement. Nelson earned his MD from Boston University’s Accelerated BA/MD Program, completed his Residency in Pediatrics at Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital and Fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He also holds a Graduate Certificate in Biomedical Informatics from Oregon Health and Sciences University and MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management. |
Patricia Finn, MD, UIC Strategic Initiatives
Dr. Patricia Finn is a physician scientist focusing on immune mediated pulmonary diseases, including transplantation, lung injury, and asthma. She graduated medical school and residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in immunology at the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Finn was associate professor of medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and was the Kenneth M. Moser Professor of Medicine and director of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at University of California, San Diego. Dr. Finn came to the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) as chair of the Department of Medicine and Earl M. Bane Professor in January, 2012. She was appointed UIC College of Medicine associate dean for strategic initiatives in 2016. |
Neil Patel, MBA, CEO, Healthbox
Neil reports to Healthbox's Board of Directors and is responsible for executing the company's vision. Prior to joining Healthbox, Neil worked at The Chartis Group, where he developed long-range strategic plans for children's hospitals, integrated delivery networks, and academic medical centers. Neil started his career at Sg2 in a technology evaluation and consulting role, focusing on surgical services, operations, and enterprise strategic planning. Neil holds a BS in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and an MBA with concentrations in finance, healthcare, and entrepreneurship from The Kellogg School of Management. |
Jay Joshi, MD, MBA, CEO, Output Medical
Dr. Jay Joshi started Output Medical as an intern at the University of Illinois Medical Center and had led the venture from initial intellectual property creation through its first round of funding. He built all the intellectual property to date, developed the financial models and business plan, and is first author for the clinical study to be conducted at the University of Chicago Medical Center. He works in a private practice group in Northwest Indiana in which he manages patients in the hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, and at-home setting. Additionally, he helped develop an angel investment syndicate of Physician-investors called MD Angels. He received his Medical Doctorate from the University of Illinois Medical in 2009 through the accelerated MD/BS medical program, and received his Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 2011. He completed his internship at the University of Illinois Medical Center. |
Humera Fasihuddin, MBA, Co-Director, UIF
Humera co-directs the University Innovation Fellows Program. She trains students to create lasting institutional impact that enhances the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem on campus. Prior to the University Innovation Fellows program, she worked for nonprofit VentureWell and led the creation of numerous programs including the organization’s first foray in advanced venture training workshops, which today account for over half of the 501c(3)’s income. Before that, she created innovation networks between industry and the University of Massachusetts Amherst under an NSF Partnership for Innovation grant. Humera began her career at the publicly-traded UK firm Rexam, serving as product manager in their precision coated materials subsidiary. Humera holds an M.B.A. from UMass Amherst and a B.S. from Smith College. |
Leland Brewster, MBA, Director, Healthbox
Leland supports Intermountain Innovation Fund-related activities and heads Healthbox's seed investments in addition to supporting portfolio management efforts across all of its investment vehicles. Prior to joining Healthbox, Leland worked for Clarion Healthcare, a boutique life sciences consultancy in Boston. At Clarion, he was involved in multiple product commercialization and launch readiness projects, as well as the design and launch of a one-of-a-kind patient and physician support program. Leland received his BA in Economics and Chemistry from Williams College and received his MBA from Chicago Booth. |
Katie Dzugan, MBA, Network Dev Director, UIF
Katie is the Network Development Director for the University Innovation Fellows. She trains students to be change agents on campus by encouraging students to take ownership over their learning and their peers future education. Prior to the University Innovation Fellows, she helped support the program as a member of nonprofit VentureWell. Katie is a University Innovation Fellow alumna. She helped develop Saluki Ventures, a student incubator at SIU Carbondale; the program helped her view her campus as an ecosystem and spread the idea of entrepreneurship to all disciplines. Katie is an advocate for the entrepreneurial mindset and continues to pursue this passion by expanding the national student movement through the University Innovation Fellows program. Katie holds an M.B.A., M.A. and B.S. from SIU Carbondale. |
